Abstract:
The talk will concentrate on some of the earliest developments in computer art during the 1960s when the University of Toronto played an important role in this field. It will compare the two exhibitions at London and Zagreb in 1968 that identified two cornerstones of digital media: spectacle and research. It will, thirdly, take up some current trends: digital art has become a respected subject matter of Art History.
Short Bio:
Frieder Nake was a Postdoctoral Fellow with the University of Toronto
graphics group in 1968-69. He is professor emeritus of interactive computer
graphics at the University of Bremen, Germany. His work is in computer art,
digital media, and interaction design. He is one of the foremost scholars of
and contributors to the Digital Arts.
